Chrysler 360 Reverse Rotation Convert to Standard Rotation Thoughts?

Okay so I get the motor from Michigan to Texas finally for the 74 Chrysler Conqueror SIII Jet boat and the rotation sticker appears to say its reverse rotation. I put on the starter hook up the battery and check the wiring diagram and hot wire it. Hit the starter bump and sure enough it spins counterclockwise. I put some gas in the carb and it fired right up and sounds real good.

SO here are my thoughts.
1) Sell this motor and get a clockwise rotation motor
2) create a Reversing sun gear setup to mount between the Flywheel and Input drive of the Chrysler Jet
3) Rebuild this motor changing over the CounterClockwise parts for Clockwise parts
a) Camshaft
b) Distributor Drive Gear
c) Crankshaft Oil Seals

What are everyones thoughts? Am I missing something on the motor that needs to be replaced to reverse the rotation? I know that I need to change or have the starter rebuilt for reverse rotation and replace the water pump so it is spinning in the proper direction I am just looking for the internals that need to be changed.

BTW this is an 82 Chrysler 360 one of the last ones to be produced.

I have a video of it running will see if I can get that posted later.

Bond-o I bought the motor in May being told it was a standard rotation and it has been sitting in my buddies garage since May when he picked it up for me. I finally got up there to get it and see the sticker and then once home tested it to find out its reverse rotation. I am a bitpeeved at the guy that told me it was a standard rotation motor but what can I do not much but go one from here. When I look at the front of the motor it spins counter clockwise and I need it to spin clockwise. The starter mounts from the rear and spins the motor counterclockwise fromt here if it was able to be mounted from the engine side of the flywheel it would spin the motor clockwise. Therefore I need to either swap out the starter with someone that has one that spins the motor the other way or rewire the starter and replace the bendix with one for a reverse rotation in regards to the starter. On a Chrysler a standard rotation motor uses a reverse rotation starter when the starter mounts from the rear and vice versa on a reverse rotation motor. Almost all Chrysler Marine motors I have seen have the starter mounting from the rear. I think I have seen one or two mounting in the stock starter location as in a car. These were early hemi engines though.

This is kinda where I am leaning as well but this motor runs so good that I dont want to give up on a good motor to get a crappy one. But then again I was wanting to upgrade to a 5.9L magnum motor which is just a newer 360 with roller rockers and lifters. So this is the perfect opportunity. As far as standard motors being a dime a dozen for Chrysler Marine ot so sure about that. And About selling this one I can see it hard to sell a Reverse rotation motor without the other one of the pair. I am going ot post it up see what I can get for it. If I can cover the cost of a replacement motor It might be a go. Then just have to figure out what to do with the Starter to sell and buy a CCW Starter, trade for a CCW Starter or rebuild as a CCW Starter. new CCW Bendix is $70. Found an aftermarket high torque Marine starter for $215 including shipping. If I can get atleast $400 for this long block and another $150 for this starter then I will got he Magnum 5.9 (360) and aftermarket starter.

You can bolt the magnum heads on to a LA block and get a roller cam retro fit kit.

I have no experiences with small block RR engines , but on the three RR big block Chrysler's I care for have a different crank. The RR crank has machining to move oil away from the seals, if you spin it standard rotation this machining will push oil into the seals.

For the price of a refit it would be cheaper to buy a complete running motor since the truck motors are pretty close tot he stock specs of a marine motor cam wise and with the roller cam would have a longer flatter torque curve. I can get a long block 5.9 (360) magnum for under $300 from the pick n pull.

As far as the oil slinging I thought at one point it was the seals that needed to be changed because the groves int eh crank were removed after doing away with rope seals.

You may have some bracket ,lower pulley issues and balance issues with a junk yard magnum.

I've done a few LA swaps to magnums so I know what differences there are. I will be making sure to get a complete motor. I am planning on getting a new aluminum manifold that has the dual bolt pattern so it fits either the LA or magnum motor. As far as balance issues it's just rebalancing the flywheel which I was planning on doing already since that's a lot of rotating weight in thoae flywheels and in this application it's not needed to be so thick. I am planning on changing over all the brackets and pulleys over from the 360 I have to the 5.9 magnum. There are some mods the the external of the magnum head so that the boat exhaust manifolds mount up right. Basically it's a little grinding.

Right now just need to see what I can sell this 360 long block for so that I can buy the magnum.
