I have a bad starter on my 35hp. How much does is usally cost to have one rebuilt by someone? Also, what is the part number for a replacement?

Your motor is too old to go through mercury. Here is a link to a 1974 354HH 35 HP motor. Does your starter look like this? To have a motor shop do the rebuild it will be about 100 bucks starter

It looks just like the diagram you linked to. 100 bucks for a rebuild? It seems like you could get a new one for around that price..

New they are around 161. It looks like the brush kit for your starter is no longer available. That is probably all you need to make yours work. I know there are aftermarket ones out there for around 130 bucks but I cant remember where that was. Keep an eye out on ebay. Usually one or two available there
