Hey all,

I have a 1978 Luhrs with twin chrysler 318s. My manifolds and risers were suposedly replaced when I bought the boat four years ago. I pulled off the manifolds and risers to clean them. Manifolds look great but the risers look clogged. I tried to clean them and they dont look good to my standards. These are the manifolds with the risers at the end and then a twenty degree down angle. My question is can I eleminate the riser? My engines sit about 8 inches higher then the exhaust outlets and my exhaust outlets are about 3 inches higher than the waterline and I also have exhaust flaps on the the ends. I was thinking of just putting the 20 degree tips at the end of the manifolds.I personally dont think it would hurt not having the risers there and I have seen a silverton without them. What do you guys think???

So who makes the new outlet you want to go with?

So it looks like it's from Barr:

I think it would be fine, but keep a eye on your flappers.

Two of our boats use an elbow just like that stock from Chrysler. Both boats exhaust exits below the water line. So you should be fine.

Re: Chrysler 318 Riser

Thanks Tahorover, Seeing those pics makes me feel a little bit more confident about my idea of taking off the risers. The risers are not all that expensive but it just didnt make sense to me for them to even be there. I figure the rubber flappers on the outside of the boat will keep any real harmful water out and like I posted before the exhaust is a good 3-4 inches above the waterline so I should be fine. I cant wait to get the boat in the water and get my season under way. Hopeing to be in the water next weekend.
