Model: 202HD
S/N: 2143
1972

My cam wiper/felt was missing when I got the motor. I have ordered a pair but I'm not positive where it goes or how many go in there. The parts manual only shows one, but not where it goes. Can someone throw me a clue? I can take a picture if I need to.

Re: Chrysler 20HP cam wiper/felt

Dan:

The cam felts should be inserted in a fork like part of the points and rub the cam on both sides. It should be greased lightly and work the grease inside the felt. Then one end of the felt should be inserted in this fork like part of the point and this could be tricky, use a long nose plier to force the compressed cam felt edge into the fork like structure.

But be absolutely certain to have the ignition of the motor disconected, the plugs dismounted to prevent the motor from starting. Be very careful to make the flywheel seat properly and that there are no cracks nor inbalance in the flywheel.

The points and condensers should be part of your 100 hour service.

Thanks for replying, and I hear ya, but there's no fork like projection on my points. :(

Yes! Your'e absolutely correct. The points do not have the fork like structure, this structure is located close to where the point are screwed to the stator plate.

It's part of the stator plate and grab the felts that rub the cams. Please make sure to make them saturated with some grease. Point's P/N is 18-5009 and comes with the condensors as well as the felt grease. I hope this makes it somewhat clear.

Re: Chrysler 20HP cam wiper/felt

Thanks again. The felts came pre lubricated and sealed in plastic. I will pull the flywheel again tomorrow and take another look. I remember seeing something before between each coil and the cam and wondering if that was it. It looked like 2 little "tits" sticking up. I thought that might have been it but they didn't look long enough to hold the felt. Maybe just enough to grab a third of it. Also the space between them and the cam was much smaller than the felts. This would require bending the felt back almost like it was "painting" cam.

These little "tits" hold the felts and putting the felts there is the real challenge!

Thanks. The weather has been nasty so I haven't looked yet. But I'll give that a try.

I pushed them in with a pair of needle nose pliers. We'll see if they stay in there. :)

Make sure they're saturated with grease.
