Hi folks, I put the boat make in the subject cause I figure fellow catalina owners would best be able to help me. It's an 82 Catalina 281 I have two questions (second summer with the booat, never owned one before, got no one else to ask). First, the guy that winterized my boat told me that it seems the impeller is bad in the shower pump as it's not pumping water out of the pan. I just checked the shower today and there's an acctual drain which makes me think there is a pump under the pan. How do I access it? I see the toilet is raised up on a platform. If I remove the entire setup would I have access to the shower pump?

Second question. THe guy I bought the booat from said that the aft bilge doesn't work but I'd never need it anyway. There is a mid bilge pump and it works just fine hoowever when I took the boat out of the water last year a TON of water was draining out of the plug in the aft. Seems I need one there afterall. The problem is, when I open the hatches I'm staring down at the engines. There is a small hatch closer to the stern but it's over the fuel tank. Where in the world ddoes the aft bilge go? I want to remove the one there and get a new one to put in.

Thanks,
JP

Re: Chris Craft Catalina aft bilge and shower pump question

Hi there and welcome to IBOATS

the make of the boat actually has very little impact on a 30 year old boat.... It has likely been changed several times.... My bet is that no the pump is not under the shower... Start by looking EVERYWHERE that you have access too.... there will be a hose between the shower drain and the pump.... also if you turn on the pump and hear a noise, follow that.... The bilge pump could be anywhere too although it is likely in the bottom of the bilge.... It COULD also be mounted about anywhere with a suction hose going to the bilge..... ALSO if you are getting water in there then you need more than a bilge pump.... You also need to find the source of the water and fix it.... Water coming in is NOT ok.
