Well, after all the help I got here a week or two ago I finally got to take the boat out for a spin.... after putting down the channel for an hour I got to the exciting sign that said "resume normal safe operation" and got ready to hit the throttle. Pushing it down to about three quarters and seeming fin I pushed a bit more then the fun was over. The motor stalled as if the key got turned off. I put'er back in neutral hit the key and she started right up. I assumed since the carbs were not done after the winter season that I needed to clean them out. I did that and have put the carbs back on. I was wondering though. Someone has taken the electric choke solenoid off the motor and discarded it appearently. They placed a manual choke on it. (pain in the butt to run to back of boat once started) So the question: what besides the choke solenoid would I need to re-attach a electric choke?

I don't know what youe engine is, but usally a mount strap, screws, solinoid, plunger and some linkage, ck your local marinas they probably have a parts motor that you can get the parts off from--Bob

This is your '63 40hp I presume?
I don't have a manual that covers your engine very well - does your carb have a place on the bottom of the bowl where a choke can be strapped on? There's a bunch of different choke designs for the 40hp, including some automatic ones.

But on to your problem - that doesn't seem like a carb issue to me. Check this out: start at idle and advance the throttle (engine off). The carb should be opened by the little roller rolling on the cam on the armature plate. At about 3/4 throttle, the armature plate should stop turning, but as you continue to advance the throttle the roller should get lifted off the cam so the carb can open all the way. Is this exactly what's happening?
