I've got a 1984 cruiser with twin inboard Crusader/Chevy 3.8 V-6 motors with about 1400 hours.
The last few times we've had the boat out, one of the engines wants to die while at idle. She'll start from cold pretty easy, and purrs like a kitten at cruise speed. But after it warms up, if you back it down to idle it'll often die.
Last weekend she died while coming into the slip, and with only one motor I didn't have the control necessary to avoid a propeller protruding from the stern of moored sailboat! Nice new scrape on the hull No damage to him.
I poured some gas drier in the the tanks and replaced the fuel filter with no change. It might be time to put in new plugs & wires, but if that's the cause I'd think it would stumble at higher rpm also.
I really wonder if it's a carburetor problem? The idle speed seems okay when it's running, but I wonder if there's a mixture screw that might be starving it?
Any suggestions are appreciated! Can't wait to get back on the water!
Thanks.
