Describe "struggled to turn over" Did it sound like the engine just stopped? Then after a few more times it started turning over again?
That could be water in the cylinders.
When you slow down to fish, do you just shut the engine off at high speed, then put it in neutral? Could be water sloshed up the exhaust and into the engine.
That would make it hard to start for a while till you burned the water out of it or ________
