I am considering buying a 2004 Land cruiser (4.7 liter, 235 hp @ 4800 rpm), rated towing cap at 6500 lb, I own a 245 four winns cuddy, towing weight is approx 6400 lbs. I currently pull it with a 2003 chev 2500 hd (6.0 300hp). I would sell my truck if I buy the toyota. My brother is having trouble pulling his 22 ft cobalt with his Durango. Will I have problems with the toyota?

Thanks

No way would I even think about a tow vehicle that was rated for 1.5% over tow weight.

Your boat needs a vehicle rated for not less than 7500#. Better 10,000#.

Toyota is making a big marketing splash with their FIRST full size pickup, knowing that half of the buyers out there buy a pickup with no intentions of towing anything. Whether it's ford, Chevy, or dodge, stick with the people that have been building real trucks for decades.

Thanks Gentlemen,
My wife got the Cruiser, kept my chev, traded my wifes german sedan. The toyota is a pretty nice unit.

I drive a Toyota Tundra for work. It's a 4 door, with the 4x4 off road package and the towing package. Great, Great vehicle for going to the store, or family outings.
If your pulling 3000 pounds or less it is a Great tow vehicle.
When you get over 3000 lbs. I have found that the vehicle does not have the body weight and mass to tow higher weights. The truck rolls in turns, and has mushy suspension.
I have towed 5000 lbs. with this truck and I was VERY, VERY Uncomortable!
Mike

Only 3000? No offense, but I've towed more than that with my Cherokee (5000lb capacity) and it was fine.

spudbartlett - Glad to see it worked out for you!

I didn't say that it will ONLY pull 3000. It is rated at about 7000. But I have been driving this in almost all types of towing situation. I would rather tow with a Cherokee.
My Daughter has a Cherokee and it tow MUCH better than the Tundra.

Yeah, I kinda meant more along the lines of "at only 3000 it felt bad?" My neighbor has a Tundra and it looks like a decent enough truck, but I've never really seen one perform. The Cherokee is an adequate tow vehicle for what I need it for (12 foot Zodiac, mostly). The most I ever towed was a heavy, old, VW bus filled with parts (~4500lbs) and on a dolly that was five times too large. The weakest part was the braking (no axuiliary brakes, just the XJ's), but it handled and powered up fine. I think the weakest part you'll find the Cherokee in towing is the brakes and the fact that it's a unibody. Driveline wise, it's up to the task.
