Is there any of the members that have any knowledge of the 6.5L Turbo charged diesel that GM makes?

Spinner
The 6.2L and 6.5L diesel engines have not enjoyed
a good reputation in the world of diesel engines.
They are of gas design, converted by GM to diesel
engines. I have taken many over the years on trade
with owners complaining of high maintenance costs
and poor reliability and durability, and a short
life compared with other diesel manufacturers.GM
has reentered the diesel competition with the new
6.6l duramax by Isuzu a much better motor.

Re: Chevrolet Truck

Thanks nosleep.
I got one now so we will see.
It seems to have plenty of get up and go about it, and it is as clean as a pin.
I bought it from the original owner and he had just got through putting a injection pump on it so maybe he has got the most of the bugs worked out of it.

spinner
Keep the engine oil clean and change it regular
this will help greatly in any preventative
maintenance , a good oil additive like tufoil
would be a good idea. check out
www.62-65-dieselpage.com/

From what I hear (my Father-in-law has a 94) you've had the worst part replaced already. The injector pump is supposed to be the part that fails the most.

Good luck with it and if you have a lot of questions, try Chevytalk

http://www.chevytalk.org

Re: Chevrolet Truck

Hi. I have owned an 84 6.2 and now have 93 6.5..
I had about 230,000 on the 6.2 and have
120,000 on the 6.5. I pull trailers with both.
6.5 has much more power than 6.2, both gave me good service except for fuel pump replacements both. The replacements worked well. Also both chev transmissions are weak. replace the 84 3 times and the 93 once. engine is excellent if you can get passed auto transmission.

Re: Chevrolet Truck

Thanks all for the input.
I talked to the guy that bought it new and he pulled a gooseneck trailer hauling atvs and he said he has had no problems with it except some things the dealer took care of and a injection pump that was replaced by a recall.
Just normal maintenance and has had good luck with it.
