any locals out there???

with the boat going in the water this friday, i'm gearing up for the trophy season. i figure i'll take advantage of the catch and release season, and practice getting my lines out. would be nice to catch a few as well.

i'm coming out of the magothy. any suggestions on finding fish this time of year? head north or south? troll deep or shallow? keep to the normal channel edges, or hit the center of the channel?

thanks-

There is a heck of a lot more to successful trolling than just dragging lines around. Do yourself a favor and charter a boat this spring to see how it's done. Watch and listen to what is going on and you will shorten your learning curve immensely. It's well worth the money

:) Dingbat
That's good advice for matt
Find a local striped bass charter and I'm sure that the captain would answer any questions that you may have and pay attention to where he is fishing.
When we went to the San Quan River we were catching only one or two fish. We hired a guide used his flies watched his method and caught a couple of dozen fish that day.
Next day we bought some of the same flies went out on our own and caught plenty of fish.

yeah, all good advice, but just can't see paying to pack myself on a boat with 20 others, while my own boat sits at the dock. i'd rather not catch anything.

actually, many of the captains run free seminars during the spring, and i'll probably try and catch a few.

I wouldn't want to go with twenty other people either.
You and a couple of other friends could probably charter a half day striper trip on a 23 footer or what ever.

You can charter the whole boat to yourself for about $400 a day plus tips. Get a few freinds to go with you and you can get away pretty cheap.

Those seminars while good can only get you so far. I know most of those giving the seminars and most will tell you the same I have.
