checking the coils on 9.5 Evinrude

Hello, I read an earlier post where someone said you can check for a bad coil by switching the wires on the coils and not physically removing the coils and switching. Is this true? I'm not sure what he was talking about. It was suggested on a problem similar to mine. No spark on the lower cylinder, points and condenser ok.<br />Thanks for any advice.

Hey P. S.,<br />Didn't read the post you're referring to, but it sounds like he's telling you to switch the small wire that goes to each coil (not the wire that goes to the spark plug). If you still have no spark at that coil, the coil is probably bad. If however, you now have spark at the plug, the coil is OK and you'll 'll need to look elsewhere in the ignition system for the problem. <br />Backlash
