Motor in signature. Is there anyway to check the condition of the prob hubs while the prop is off and without the special tool mentioned in the service manual? I have 3 props and I'd like to know for sure that at least one is in good shape. I'm soon finishing a complete rebuild and I'd like to rule out the prop if I come across any issues when I first take her out to the lake. If the special tool is required, I'll call the dealer and see if they have it. Since the prop is for an older model, would it be likely that dealers won't have that special tool for such an old prop? I'll ask them anyway, but I'd like a bit of a heads up. Thanks.

You have a couple of choices: Test it on the motor, in the lake, or take it to a dealer or prop shop. Possibly neither of them will have the fixture.

To test a suspected slipping prop on the motor, make a mark on the plastic prop nut, and a second mark on the prop, aligned with the first one. Run the motor till the suspected slipping occurs, then stop and check your marks. If they no longer align, it slipped.
