Just wondering if anyone had tips for how to check compression of a loose small engine powerhead without it being installed to a recoil

Re: Checking compression

You could try using a drill with a socket on the nut to the flywheel and spin the engine that way; you would need to secure the engine. Good luck

"most" small ob's....and some large ones have a rope sheave on the flywheel. clamp the powerhead firmly in a b&d workmate or similiar type clamp.

I wouldn't recommend using a drill and socket on the flywheel nut as you could screw up the nut torque on the flywheel.

I'll stick with the compression gauge on a 2 stroke. The 4 stroke is a different story.

Plenty times. Just be sure to secure it somehow and test away!

Couple of bolt thru a 2 by 4 and clamp it in your bench vise or to a hefty table.---Pull the cord.
