Hello,
I have a Mercury 4 hp engine and apparently I accidentally threw away the check valve when I replaced the old tube. What is the role of the valve and is there a problem in running the engine without the valve?
Attached photos for illustration
Thanks.

Yes I know it is a 2 stroke !!!---Oil and lubrication in a 2 stroke are not well understood.------Good luck with it.

I still don't understand what the function of the valve is in the engine.

In a nut shell oil sticks to things and gets circulated around. The fuel and oil mix doesn’t touch ever internal moving part.

Hello, I purchased a valve, the question is what is the correct direction for assembly?

On a 2 stroke, fuel and oil can collect in the Crankcase leading to the engine loading up and running Rich. Yrs ago the Fuel was expelled out of the Crankcase thru a Checkvalve and dumped into the Exhaust Housing. However many people frowned on that. So in response, Outboard makers rerouted the Condensate to the Upper Bearings. This was actually good idea as it helped keep those bearings well oiled.

Thanks for the quick response, according to what I understand the correct direction for assembly is to allow the crankcase oil to pass to the cylinder and not the other way around?

Perhaps in this case they are trying to get oil to the Wrist/Piston Pin, or the skirt of the Piston, not the Bearing.
