Isn't that what the whole immigration issue is about?

Businesses don't want to pay a decent wage, consumers don't want expensive produce.

Government will tell you Americans don't want the jobs but the bottom line is cheap labor.

"The phrase "cheap labor" is a myth, a farce, and a lie.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is no such thing as "cheap labor." Take, for example, an illegal Mexican who sneaks in here with his wife and five children.
He takes a job for five or six dollars an hour. At that wage, with six dependents he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year if he files income tax he gets an "earned income credit" of up to $3,200 free.
He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent.
He qualifies for food stamps.
He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care.
His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school.
He requires bilingual teachers and books.
He qualifies for relief from high energy bills.
If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled they qualify for SSI.
Once qualified for SSI they can qualify for medicare.
All of this is at that taxpayers (your!) expense.
He doesn't have to worry about car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners insurance.
Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins and printed material.
He cannot be fired, harassed, or sued.
He and his family receive the equivalent of $20 to $30 an hour in benefits.
Working Americans are lucky to have $5 or $6 an hour left after paying their bills and his. AND, Americans also pay for increased crime, graffiti, and trash cleanup.
Cheap labor? YEAH RIGHT!"
So...who benefits (besides the illegals)???? Figure that out and you'll know why our elected representatives BS the problem to death but haven't done anything about it for years and years!!!!!
Not exactly. I deal with the Housing Authority every year. In fact one of my tenant in on Section H but she's not ILLEGAL or Mexican.
To qualify for Section H, a person/family must provide proof of legal residency. Illegal aliens do not qualify. Also illegal aliens do not have SS number therefore can not apply for SSI.
OK, so what about his other points? Do you agree with them that they are true?
Re: Cheap Labor
Much of what you say is myth, Firestar. Simply not so for an undocumented (illegal) intruder into our country.
You weaken the argument to stop this invasion with exaggerated claims like that.
The facts are enough. Truth is enough. The law is enough.
All we have to do is enforce the law or change it to an enforcable law. Congress, so far, hasn't the guts to do either.
He cannot be fired
This is another blatant falsehood, he can be fired.
One thing this post left out was the fact that all babies born to illegal aliens in this country become instant citizens, and a wedge in the door for the parents to not be deported if caught.
So...who benefits (besides the illegals)? Figure that out and you'll know why our elected representatives BS the problem to death but haven't done anything about it for years and years!!!!!
Could the answer be the farmers and other big business that benefit from "cheap labor"?... and have the funds to contribute to the re-election funds of the politicians?
Do I get a star on my forehead? 8)
I'm not saying this is the rule. But open your mind and I am sure that what I have presented does happen.
I thought that once congress passes a law, it up to law enforcement to enforce the law, not congress. Am I wrong?
Hence your statement leads to credence to what I stated. Gov. BS's about the issue.
It's hard sometimes, since there are whole CITIES that REFUSE to call the feds when they catch an illegal. They just let em go, back on the streets again. And this is after they have commited a crime(or been caught speeding or something).
THAT is the real problem. Places that refuse to enforce the laws we already have. Getting all those cities on board with the rest of us.
Yes I agree with the rest of it. The problem however, in my eyes, has two fronts. South of the border and within the border. The most important of the two maybe within our border, the politicians. We have law(s) already passed to solve the issue but big businesses are so deep inside the pocket of politicians, they are turning a blind eye. Law enforcement can not do a thing if they are not instructed to do so.
I am very much would like to see a stop to it. I'm sure all Americans do but unless we make it an issue and get the ball rolling, another one will slip through the gate. But then again we are too busy playing Left vs. Right to even care. Hey what do I know. Just a dummy with an opinion. An opinionated one that is. 8)
"Law enforcement can not do a thing if they are not instructed to do so."
Maybe instructed NOT to do it (sancuary cities)
And you are no dummy IMHO. We don't all agree, but I don't think anyone here is a dummy or stupid.
BTW, your avatar isn't working.
Re: Cheap Labor
Thought I'd take a stab at the "myth" beings JB did a drive by... so here it goes.
There is no such thing as "cheap labor." Take, for example, an illegal Mexican who sneaks in here with his wife and five children.
He takes a job for five or six dollars an hour. At that wage, with six dependents he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year if he files income tax he gets an "earned income credit" of up to $3,200 free.
I don't know about the tax bracket, but the "earned income credit" is real... this is assuming he and the employer are paying taxes.
He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent.
No comment.
He qualifies for food stamps.
Yup, and WIC. and any other low income benefit.
He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care.
Can't speak for other States, but in Oregon this is true.
His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school.
Yup.
He requires bilingual teachers and books.
Yup
He qualifies for relief from high energy bills.
Probably true, but no comment.
If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled they qualify for SSI.
If they are "paying taxes", True.
Once qualified for SSI they can qualify for medicare.
No brainier here.
All of this is at that taxpayers (your!) expense.
Ditto.
He doesn't have to worry about car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners insurance.
Probably not... I'd be surprised if he is licensed to drive.
Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins and printed material.
Yup.
He cannot be fired, harassed, or sued.
Now this whole statement is untrue... he can be fired, he can be harassed, and he can be sued... what suing him would benefit you I have no idea.
He and his family receive the equivalent of $20 to $30 an hour in benefits.
That's probably over stated, more around 10 to 15 dollars per hr.
Working Americans are lucky to have $5 or $6 an hour left after paying their bills and his. AND, Americans also pay for increased crime, graffiti, and trash cleanup.
No comment.
So I guess it all depends on who is calling it "cheap labor"... From a tax payers view point, ain't cheap at all.
