My brother has a big sailboat 40 to 45 foot, I was hoping for some suggestions for a birthday gift, something he could use on the boat. Keep in mind I'm cheap, so I'm thinking around 50 bucks, definitely less than a hundred...thanks for all replys

Well, at that size the winches are probably all self tailing. If not, a nice pair or two of gloves might be nice. If he likes a certain liquor you might spring for some high end stuff. A nice cocktail at the end of a day on the water often hits the spot. A good hat might be a winner as well.

10 gallons of fuel should get him thru the season.;)

Sailors like raingear, footwear, teathered caps, carry on storage bags, ship log, a rescue knife,.....

Just visited Williamsburg & Jamestown recently and almost got on of these: a sundial diptych with compass. That's the cheap one the museum shop sells, but there are much nicer (and significantly more expensive) ones out there.

The docent on the Susan Constant showed it to me while we were talking navigation. The compass and sundial are pretty self explanatory, but theres also a calendar of months on the gizmo. It was pretty cool.

Have you considered a Sailor's bracelet? It's cheap at approx $25 and it carries with it a nice personal touch. :)
