I own a Bayliner reflexx, it has a merc sportjet 90. being that this is the first jet boat I've
owned I don't know much about it. I just bought
it, had it out 3-4 times no problem, the next time
I take it out dead battery!

Buy new battery run it off and on all day no problem, shut it off for 10 minutes, try starting
dead battery. Whats up? I was told the stater
might be bad. but batterys keep dying HELP!

Re: Charging system.

The rectifier converts AC voltage from the stator to DC voltage to charge the battery. However these engines have had stator problems. Check the rectifier first.

Re: Charging system.

Do I have to have a mechanic look at it or is there a way for me to find out on my own whats wrong? Because I like everyone else hate to part with hard earned money.

Re: Charging system.

Well you know I also have a 1973 aristocraft
with a merc 165 straight 6 that is pretty easy to diagnose these jet powerheads are new to me.
I don't mind spending money but I don't want to go broke either. But thank you at least now I
know the caliber of people that I am asking for
help from. Its funny how one person can ruin
an otherwise useful tool don't you think? :p

Re: Charging system.

Voltage regulator/Rectifier can be the one and the same. I dont have a manual for your setup, But they work almost the same.

Should be two yellow wires comming from the stator. THese have AC voltages on them. Then their should be a red wire that goes to the battery (may not be a direct link to it). THis is the charging wire. Easy way to check for charging is with a voltmeter. Check the voltage at the battery before cranking. Should be around 12.5 Volts. THen crank and let it run for a few min. THen recheck the voltage at the battery. It should be above 13 volts or a little above. This means the system is charging. If not you need to look further.

May I suggest a manual. Worth every penny and you will save yourself alot of time.
