Charging System On 1965 Johnson 90 Hp

need help on 1965 johnson charging system. how it works? i can see 2 yellow wires coming from under the flywheel i asume these are the AC voltage. also near them are a red and a green i can no clue about these are for
if can figure what does what.. i try to use a full wave rectifier to convert AC to DC am i on the right track?

I can answer some questions on that motor---IF I am sure which system it has. I have '64 material but not '65. I THINK it has the 20 amp system, field energized. Does it have a steel flywheel that looks like a flying saucer with round "windows" all around? If so, do you have the junction box and all the goodies inside it? The voltage regulator and rectifier diodes are in that box.

no the regulator mount on back of the engine,,,, the diodes mount on the side of the engine under a cover saying remove to replace alternator fuse this has the 2 yellow wires from the stator,,,,,,,,has a green groujnd wire from stator,,,,,, has a red wire from stator,,,,,,,,,,, if could figure out what the red wire is ,,,,,, i could plot what i want to do

Sorry, but that year is missing from my collection of stuff. It has been too many years since I was into one of those. I believe you will find that the wires are for the field coil which magnetizes the stator. Field coil current is controlled by the voltage regulator.

FR yes, the red wire attaches to the voltage regulator,,, so in testing with 2 yellow wires disconnected the should conunity thru them and none ground

the red wire disconnected should show conunity to ground

ths for your help

keep thinking if anything else comes to mind let me know
