I just purchased a 2005 20hp honda 4stroke, there is a conection for the battery, since this is a pull start (not elec) I am asuming that it is a charging system, does anyone know how much the put out? amps? I took it out today, drained my battery with minnkota trolling motor, thought I would troll for longer with the honda, and charge the battery, it didnt make much difference

Re: charger on honda 20hp

Hello,
Being your engine a non-electric start one, the maximum alternator output should be 6A. You should reach this current already at around 3000-3500rpm. When idling, I suppose it wouldn't be more than 1.5A.
It is possible that your battery is already reaching the end of its life span, so it's not absorbing much of the input from the alternator anymore.
Anyway, I would try to avoid draining your battery more than 50% of its capacity, since it dramatically decreases its life.
