changings the shifter on a 1979 35hp seahorse johnson?

I have just picked up a 35 hp johnson long leg and the motor runs but the shifter lever was broken I have a 35hp johnson short leg with no compresion,I am having some dificultys geting the broken sleave from of the shifting pin on the long leg and I am hoping to get the one off the short leg and over to the long leg.anyone know any tips?

the handle itself is secured with 2 screws one on side, one in center into shaft.

thanks,I see a grease niple on the the end of the pin but I do not see any screws whats left of the broken sleave that goes over the pin and to shift in and out of gear it seems super stiff I am asuming that is why the shifter leaver broke in the first place,is there any splines on the shaft that the lever goes on?
