I just posted about my starter, but wanted to post this seperately.
Please bear with me as I will try to explain as best I can.
I have 30' fairliner with a 350 in it.
I have to replace a gasket where the tranny meets the shaft, that goes through the bottom of the boat.
I'm not sure what that gasket is called but the previous owner said that it needs replacing cause it is leaking tranny fluid.
Question is: how big of a job is it to do this. He said I have to take the tranny off and disconnect the four bolts which connect to the shaft to the tranny.
He said it is not that big of a job.
Well, I have never taken apart a tranny before.
What is involved, or should I just have a mechanic do it?
I want to do it myself, I just don't know how big of a job it really is.
Anybody ever replaced this gasket I am talking about?
Should I get a manual for this or do they even make them?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bro Chris...

Re: changing tranny gasket

now ya have to tell us what clutch your running
some inboard clutchs are a beast. the borgwarners are normally straight fwd. usuall the rear seal leaks due to the coupler flange came loose. if you have the clearence to unbolt the coupler flange and slide the shaft far enough aft to remove the 1 1/2 inch nut and remove the tranny flange without removing the clutch its a do in place job. otherwise out it comes.
good luck and keep posting

Re: changing tranny gasket

It looks like it can come out without taking the tranny out.
Now, how do I tell what cluch I am running? Is it marked on it?
But what you are describing sounds exactly like what I have to go through.
Thanks for the response Rodbolt.
if you can tell me how I can tell you what clutch I have, I'll go and take a looksee.
Bro Chris...
