This site is a great calibration of people coming together and helping each other. Its great to actually see a forum work like its intended to. I don't know weather to get the Sierra conversion or the Mallory conversion. The Mallory looks like it comes with a new rotor. So do I need to get a Mallory distributor cap for it to work correctly? I was wanting to know when I replace the points with the Sierra electronic ignition will the stock rotor work correctly? If it doesn't will the stock distributor work correctly with a different rotor? I assume that the coil wouldn't be affected by the change because it will fire regardless of where the signal is coming from.
Thanks for all your help and wisdom.

either kit should bolt in and use stock caps and rotors. I'm pretty sure Pertronics also has an electronic conversion kit for any engine, I put one in my '67 mustang small block, no more points and runs smoother. easiest kit to install, 2 screws and 2 wires and your done.

If your original distributor is still in good shape you can change the internals and do some simple re-wiring and convert it to a Pertronix Unit. I did this and it has been a nice improvement. Here is an OLD thread regarding this conversion. It may answer some questions for you and help you to decide which way to go. Remember it is an OLD thread don't try to post in it. http://forums.iboats.com/mercruiser...-flame-thrower-ii-0-6-ohm-my-470s-628029.html

Before you decide take a look at the Petronix Ignitor II 91146A with- Flamethrower II coil 45011 (oil) 45111 (epoxy). Uses the stock rotor and cap. Lots of guys (including me) like them for the 470. Yeah that is a pretty good thread, hits all the high points.
