motor is a 2000 50 hp Johnson. Needs new fuel pump, my marine engine guy is too busy to get to it this week. I don't have a manual, but changed fuel pump on my old motor ('75 50 hp) Is it fairly simple?

You might just want to get yourself a manual and save the headache. I've never seen that particular engine or anything similar but it seems simple on mine (84' 140). Personally I wont even take my pants off without a manual.

Not to sound to harsh but there alot of people will help out more if you have questions that the manual does not explain.
Is it easy?...yes and no.
I would not attempt it without a manual.
assuming it is a vro/oms pump it needs to have the oil primed correctly or else it won't be a mixer and it will pump just gas into your carb.
a manual is almost a must have item.

If you can't find a manual readily available, your local library may have one.

Re: changing the fuel pump

I recently replaced the fuel pump on my 1988 70 Evinrude. The pump actually came with instructions inside the box. I have the manual as well, but the instructions were plenty. As long as your swapping an indentical new part in for the old one, it shouldn't be too big of a deal provided you're reasonably proficient mechanically. If you can do the brakes on your car, for example, you'll be just fine. Just remember to use pipe thread compound on any threads (pules limiter) and use new plastic zip ties (not metal screw clamps) on all the hoses and make sure they're snug. That's about it.
