changing t-stats

My 79 85 hp Rude has had just about everything done to it except changing the thermostats. About how often should this be done? No overheating problems at all. Is it really as hard as it looks to do this?<br /><br />Dutch

*secret*....... if it ain't broke, don't fix it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <br /><br />thermostats can last as long as the engine. However, if you start having overheating problems, check it first; since it's the only elderly part on the booger.
