I have a 90hp, just had the internal wire harness rebuilt...and prior to going to the lake this weekend I was going to replace my plugs. My motor is a 78 and the plug wires look original and are looking a little aged. Can I just go to AutoZone and pick up six new wires? Or is it better to order them online or at my local marine shop. I guess my question is, is there a major difference. Also this may sound dumb, but do I ask for just six new plug wires or do I need to look up a number for them. Thanks in advance!

I just checked with a local marine shop....$130 bucks? Please god tell me that they got something messed up on what I was asking about. I said I wanted the spark plug wires, he said yes and then something about a coil something. After I heard the cost I stopped paying attention to anything else. But apparently I was quoted for the wires and some wire for a coil or something. Is this the norm? I am going to do a little more research, that is a STUPID AMOUNT for wires.

If your 1978 came with the 6 coils and 7" wire just order part # 3025 from Promarine and price is about $6 ea. If you have the earlier distributer style wire are about $20 ea:eek:

I am not sure exactly what distributor I have, the first couple of digits on my motor is 4846 though if this helps. I just want to find something priced decent. Thanks

SAMM, Try Vintageoutboards.com or Oldmercs.com. One of them has the 36" tiger tails, with the brass screw ends, for $6 each. You will need to cut to length and install the springs and spark plug boots, but you can reuse your old ones or buy new for a few $$.
