Sure its possible.....OMC/BRP used to do the kit for about $350 but its now obsolete.....and as expensive if not more so to do it by purchasing new individual parts.
If you can find a complete similar year non running longshaft for cheap thats probably the best way to get everything you need and then some (spares). Also, occasionally you will see changeover kits (used) listed on ebay.
No need to swap lower units, the one you already have will work just fine with the appropriate longshaft parts.
