I used the same grade of oil as I use for my mercruiser 135HP engine on my Honda 10.0 which is I think 20 40. As I was working on my Honda yesterday I noticed on the side of the engine it says oil SAE 10 30. That is the same oil I use on my Toyota Corolla. Should I change the oil and use 10 30 grade?

Re: changing oil

That mercuiser oil is functional but you are operating in a climate that can get a little cold.If I were you I'd switch.

Re: changing oil

I would change to 10-30 oil if you run in the winter as the Honda seems to have a hard time getting up to temperature as it is. I have used 10-30 in my 15 hp Honda since 1997. The secret is to make sure you are getting fairly warm water from the tell-tale. If not might be time to clean out the thermostat hole and put in one of the newer stainless stats. Do you make oil? If so, you are running to cold.
