You know we all do dumb things. Last year at a Christmas in July Party on the lake, we had all our friends on board for the fire works. Everything went great, the kids had a real good time. There is nothing like being on the water with the fireworks above you.
That day I didn't get much sleep because of my work schedule, but was still able to fullfill my yearly goal of meeting with my friends for this occassion.
After the fireworks everyone except for my son and his friend were let off at the dock, and we went out to the lake on the east side so that the morning sun wouldn't wake us early. Before we bedded down for the night, we agreed that we were to hungry to go to sleep. So we got to our sight, set up the barbie and fixed some real nice burgers. Now our bellies are full and sleep as can be. The boys got into their bunks and I retired to my bunk.
Morning comes and I hear water splashing against the shore. I get up and look out at the portal and nothing looks right at all. The sun is up and something is really wrong with this picture. I get completely out of bed and go outside to find out that we are on the other side of the lake, almost up against the shore in about a foot of water. Oh No! I need at least 3 foot of water for my draft!. I then went to find out why my anchor didn't work. It didn't work because nobody remembered to throw it out. So all night long we drifted across the lake. So I guess you could say being fatigued is just about as bad as being intoxicated. I did not drink that night because I was captain on duty and did not want to risk any problems. Two weeks later, my son threw the anchor out without the rope being attached. Well, they say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! We were able to get out of the shallow water with not problem, if I hadn't of woke up, we would have been beached for sure.
