Changing Motors Merc to an Evinrude

I currently have a 140 Mercury on my 24ft pontoon, the motor is to big for my boat. So I am downgrading so I can insure my boat, I am looking at a mid 90's 75 HP Evinrude with controls. The problem with the controls is they are coming off a 16ft bass boat so they are going to be short big time. Are there any chances I could mix match the controls (throttle - ignition) somehow......yes I know I am looking at being a cheap***** but oh well. If someone can help me if this is possible I would appreciate it. Also any pros and cons to this motor? Before buying?

the 3 cylinder motor are great, you cannot mix and match. you can buy cable right here at iboats.com. what control plug does the motor have, big red cannon plug? http://www.iboats.com/Johnson_Type_...9951643--**********.429353546--view_id.250882
