I had a 1983 johnson 115hp motor on my boat that blew a couple cylinders. I just purchased a 1989 115hp motor with a vro. I am relatively new to boating and only know about premixing my old johnson at 50:1 and don't know anything about VROs. What do I need to do to swap these motors out? Do I need to install an oil tank on my boat? Thanks for the help.

Re: Changing from premix motor to vro

To run it as a true VRO then yes you need to install the oil tank and lines to the motor. Does this motor still have the VRO pump in place ?? did you see this motor run before you bought it ???
You can still run it at 50 to 1 premix and disconnect the oil alarm if that is what you prefer.
Suggest you use the search function and do a little reading up. A manual on your motor would also be a big help as well.

Yes, you need to install the oil tank an assorted hoses.

Make sure you pre-mix until you are sure the system is working.
