I HAVE A 1965 40HP EVINRUDE. I WANT TO REPLACE THE CARB FROM A LOW SPEED FIXED HIGH SPEED TO A ADJUSTABLE LOW AND HIGH SPEED CARB. I HAVE A SPARE FROM A 28HP 1964 EVINRUDE. IF I CAN DO IT, CAN I CAP OFF THE ROD THAT RUNS FROM THE CARB TO THE POWER UNIT AND HOW CAN I DO THAT?<br />THANKS FOR ANY OF YOUR HELP.

First thing I'd look at is the bore size of the carbs. The smaller engine carb may be smaller. Even if the bore is the same, the main jet array may not be capable of delivering enough fuel for your larger engine. (I guess that would be trial and error) As far as the "rod" goes, are you talking about the advance lever? If you are referring to the lever that moves the ignition system under the flywheel, don't even consider disabling it.
