Newbie here with a ?

I searched all of the many topics on this forum concerning 2 stroke oils.
However I still would like some input. I have a '99 Polaris SLTH with approx. 280 hrs. on the clock. I've always ran the standard Polaris oil. They no longer make that type and now only offer Synthetic. Since Polaris has dropped there PWC line and there are no dealers in the immediate area. Anyway, I noticed Wally World has Quicksilver 2 stroke oil formulated for PWC's that meets Polaris spec's. Would I be safe to change brands now with that many hours on it? I'm taking wear patterns into consideration.

What is the spec for the oil you need, Are there power valves on this engine?

Thanks for the reply LubeDude. I'm not sure about the power valves.

The ski has a 700cc 95 hp engine with approx. 280 hrs. I checked the owners manual and it didn't specify any oil other than stating the following:
"Use only Polaris Premium 2 cycle or Polaris Premium Gold Synthetic 2 cycle oil".

Followed by this statement:
"CAUTION The use of unrecommended oil could result in engine damage or poor performance. It will void your warranty.

The Quicksilver label states:
Quicksilver PWC Personal Watercraft engine oil is engineered for air or liquid cooled watercraft engines or engines which specify the use of "Quicksilver API-TC type oils including Wave-Runner, Sea-Doo and Polaris watercraft.

Well, after some checking around, you can use any TC-W3 outboard oil in your polaris, however, due to the jet propulsion and the high winding of these engines comming out of the water when juping wakes and such, I would opt for the extra protection of a synthetic, Pennzoil is resonably easy to get, but of course I would use Amsoil HP Injector if it were me, Surprise, surprise. I use it in my Bosss Kawasakis, and they never foul plugs anymore, and hardly smoke at all.

The only 2-stroke oil I use is the Amsoil HP Injector oil. I buy a couple of gallons at a time. My pwc is a 4 stroke and yep, you guessed it, I use Amsoil synthetic in the crank case. I run synthetics in all my vehicles.

My 2-stroke is a 1986 with who knows how many hours. When I bought it I switched to the Amsoil. No, barely any smoke at start up, none during operation. My neighbors merc smoke like a mosquito fogging truck when they start up....

Go with Lube's suggesstion.

I use AIMS-Oil "Exterminator" .. it's a full synthetic 2-stroke oil.. It costs about the same as the Polaris Gold (syth. oil). I actually had a performace improvement too.

('96 SL780)

Your Polaris won't have power valves. The Quicksilver 2-stroke you found will meet or exceed your engine's specification. Changing from the standard Polaris oil you were using to the Quicksilver PWC oil is just fine, although I would avoid mixing the two if possible.
