I have a bank of 4 Dual Purpose Marine batteries on my boat, each pair connected in parallel. If I want to replace them, do I disconnect the negative on BOTH batteries in parallel, BEFORE i disconnect the positives? Or do I completely disconnect one battery (negative then positive), before I move on to the next in parallel?

Disconnect the "system" ground cable from the battery bank. Then disconnect the jumper between the negative terminals of both batteries. You can now disconnect the positive cables in any sequence. When installing, connect ALL of the POSITIVE cables first, then the jumper between negative terminals, then finally the "system" ground. All of this is to prevent accidental shorting diuring removal.

Ok, but I can change just 2 batteries that are in parallel right? I don't have to change the other 2 that are separately in parallel if they are fine right?

Sound advice from Silvertip.. You don't have to change both sets. Usually it's a good plan to pull all four and have them tested at least once a year. In a marine environment it is not uncommon to replace batteries every two years. If your batteries are older than that you might want to change them all while your at it.
