i have a 89 5.0 lx with alpha drive i blew the raw water hose then melted the water pump in the drive and not getting enough flow to cool. Risers and manifolds are new but very hot checked waterflow from drive and just get a trickle what i figure is instead of having the boat pulled and have a marina do it is just convert to raw water motor driven pump i have an open cooling system and i am not sure what kit to use any help would be great thanks

Yep ,sounds like a good idea but do you realize if you also melted the seals in the water pump base your going to be losing the drive oil and then the outdrive. Not to mention that the water flow thru the outdrive also cools it.

Plus, if you are going to go with an engine mounted raw water pump, you will probably want to go with a through hull fitting to pull the water in. Needs to come out of the water for that. ;)

Yes, much cheaper and simpler to fix the problem than to add parts to try and work around it. Water pumps are not a big deal, and its a maintenance item anyway. I do mine at least every other season whether it needs it or not. I like to pull out good pumps, but more than once I've pulled a salt shaker out of that housing in the spring.
