dear guys :
i have 1990 donzi 25gt. with 5.7 cobra engine gmc . i change the starter 3 times, every time i change the starter i found out the engine won`t turn, so i try to hardly turn the engine with hand i found water came out from the spark plugs so i figure there is water leak to the engine so i thing is the manifold gasket that might leak to the engine when they cool down the manifold so any other possibility that water go to the engine other than the manifold gasket.

and i found also some water on the starter as well that why the starters keep breaking down .
but i have another thing that i saw when i start the engine and took the hose that coming from outside to the engine there is not much water when the engine idealing so i am not sure how much water should cool down the engine while on ideling
please answer my question :blue::blue:
i even every time i get the problem or before than i found the boat is very heavy when i give it gas does not take off in high speed and between every starter it took 3 to 4 days till the starter break down. and when i go in 500 rpm or 1000 sometime the high temp it go up to 200

Re: change the starter 3 times

It sounds like your engine is continually hydro-locking. You may have damaged the engine. Run a compression check and post what you get. Then do a cooling system pressure check to find the source of the leak.

I DID CHANGE THE MANIFOLD BOW GASKET TODAY AND I OPEN THE LOWER EXHAUST PIPE TO LOOK FOR THE FLAPPER WHICH IS NOT THERE ???:blue: I HOPE THE RETURN WATER DOES NOT GO TO THE ENGINE FROM THE EXHAUST BECAUSE OF THE FLAPPER IS MISSING ...
BUT IF YOU SAY I MIGHT hydro-locking MY ENGINE THAT MEAN I DAMAGED THE PISTEN OR THEY MIGHT BE BENT WHICH IS MEAN THE ENGINE WON`T START, BUT TODAY WHEN I CHANGED THE GASKET THE ENGINE RUN SMO0THLY WITH NO SOUND.

Why do you have Caps Lock on ? (shouting)

If you had water in the cylinders, then you had a hydro-lock of some sort. The extent of damage should be assessed. it may be none, but you should check to be sure. The engine will start with some extent of damage.

It also sounds like you have a cooling problem, which could be solved with an impeller replacement.

You could replace the flapper as well, while you are working on the engine. It prevents surges of water from going up inside the exhaust manifold . . . mostly due to waves and when coming off plane.

Re: change the starter 3 times

sorry about the caps lock >
if its the impeller thats mean the engine shout get overheated right a way but i dont realy have overheating problem....and even hydro lock from my knowledge in cars hydro lock the engine stop working and if you have a serious water you bend the piston rod either bad sound come out the engine that if start . but my situation when i took the water out the spark plugs the engine start and run great but within 3 to 4 other fun boating its lock back and i have to change the starter right away even with out retrying to start the starter again it die on the spot so what i do i change the starter and then take the spark plugs off to take the water out and run the engine again nice and good.
so today i change the gasket and i put the flapper and i will run it hard next week to see if its going to lock again if it does that mean i have to take the boat outside the water and take the engine part.
if there is one would like to add suggestion would be very helpful
thank you very much for all the help and waiting for your thought

Re: change the starter 3 times

Without running some tests on the engine, there is no telling what are the correct things to do. If you continue to get water inside the cylinders and have to replace the starter, then you still have a problem.

So, my thoughts are to run some tests . . .

Compression test, cylinder leak test, cooling system pressure test. If you run those tests, you will have a better idea of the condition of the engine and why there is water getting in the cylinders.

I would really doubt that this solved your problem. It does sounds like either your manifold is cracked or head-gasket is leaking or block or head is cracked... You definatelly must do the compression test prior to anything else. If compression is ok you should check your manifold...

Re: change the starter 3 times

 YOUR RIGHT THE PROBLEM NOT SOLVED..... i took the kids out today with full confidence that the boat will be running with no problem and as soon we went a way from my marina about 20 km it shout down with no notice except i felt the boat is very heavy and won`t run as fast as it used to be ......:blue:
i hate boating i hate water i hate my life. i will do the compression test but do you think if one of the spark plugs is crack will do that ???
and if the rubber boat where the y exhaust is crack would do the problem because i found it crack ???

Re: change the starter 3 times

Yea, I keep saying to run some tests, as I had a similar situation. It turned out that my engine was leaking at the valve guides and sucking water straight into the combustion chamber, causing a mild and then increasing hydro-lock. The boat/engine felt funny, like loss of power, etc. . . same as you are describing. It turned out that I had bent several connecting rods on the port side of the engine.

I think you are trying to find more quick and easy causes, but you really need to run the tests.

Certainly do the compression test (Warm engine if you can), that will assess the overall condition of the engine and any damage that has occurred. A cooling system pressure test should ID the cause.
