ups did a job on this motor shipping it, broke shift handle and bent shaft. This looks like a one piece unit and it looks like the power head may have to come off to replace. Any suggestions? Also need a cover, ups got it too. Thanks again. Great site guys.

Pflathead

1987 6 hp Model: J6RCUD
SN: B7389919

yep its power head removal time.
be careful not to lose any of the lower crank seal parts. and make sure the seal retaining roll pin is actually in the drive shaft.

On a 1987 model 6hp there's no roll pin in the driveshaft or any of the other bits to worry about. You might not even have to pullt the powerhead if you can get at the two 3/8" bolts that hold the cover over the shifter gears. Might have to pull the recoil and the carb off. There's a single bolt holding the end of the shifter to the gear and the handle and shaft ought to pull right out.
- Scott
