change out from omc to volvo sx

I am looking at changing out my outdrive from the omc cobra to volvo sx. Is their a site that I can get the info. what will I need and what I will be looking at to make this change out. Tired of repairing the lower unit.

What engine do you have, and what year.
Yes, it's possible, and Volvo does make kits for some engines.

Dont know what year the motor and outdrive are. It was repowered before I purchased boat. Best guess is 93 94. Motor is a 302 5.0 L HO outdrive OMC cobra.
I am looking at the volvo sx and know that I will need to add raw water pump,need to change out the transom sheld. but was told that I did not need to change the shift cable which to me does not sound right. I am also planning to rum 1.60 to 1 does that sound right.

You don't have to change the transom shield, or the trim cylinders. There is a kit for the pivot housing and a water pump mounting kit. Then you just add the SX (or better yet) a DP-S outdrive with dual props. change some water hoses and the shift cable and your set.
I'll post some further info later on this afternoon, got to go to work now.

Thanks again for your advise I look foward to reading what I need to do,But more I look foward to getting my boat on the water with out have to be towed back in.

Info I have a Maxum 2300sc 24' cutty about 4,000lbs will the dp be better and worth the extra cash both in out drive and props ( I will need two props, I run my boat at Lake Tahoe 6,000ft and then shasta lake and the bay area and change out props for both locations.) I believe their is about a $1,000 to $1200 diff. between the sx and the dp out drives and then the cost of the props.
Will I gain that much from the single to the duel?

Here is a right-up I did on converting a 460 Ford into a Volvo DP using kind of the same process with out the kits from Volvo. A bit more involved than what yours will be, but helps to show you what gets done.
Worked out great at the time, but now the 460 manifolds and couplers are non existant makeing the process kind of usless.

As far as using the DP instead of the SX. Trust me, and some others here that have done it. Makes it a completely different boat. Especially since your 24' boat is a bit underpowered with a 302. Should have had a 351 for that size boat.

I am not sure why it was repowered with the OMC 5.0 maybe price or it was there and ready to go. The 5.0HO is at 240 hp and the engene that was from maxum was a 5.7 260 hp merc with merc outdrive. I will look into the volvo dp but I may also just look at a total repower back to the 5.7 merc and use the mpi setup. I am just not sure which way I will go just yet. Oh well it's just time and Money right.
