Hey All,

I'm attempting to change out my exhaust manifold gasket and wanted to know if there is anything I should be particually aware of, other than the normal land minds. IE, make sure to drain it first, lossen all hoses and clamps, use anti-seize for the bolts, torque @ 23, and 25lbs.
Also, does it make sense to change both sides, including end caps. I'm only doing this for Preventitive maintennace. There doesn't seem to be any leaks at the moment.
Would love to hear your thought's and suggestions.
Thank you,

If the exaust gasket is not leaking or damaged ,just leave it alone. no reason to just change it.

Good evening Bt,
I don't disagree with you, but I run my boat in the ocean alot and thought it be a good idea to change them out, and while i'm in there see if there is anything going on.
Thank you for your input!
Best,

If your manifolds were installed correctly they will crumble before the gaskets will give way.

I agree with both of these gentlemen. If there are no exhaust leaks, then you don't have to replace them. They will let you know when you need to replace them. As for draining the manifold... You do not have to drain anything to change an exhaust manifold gasket. The water is contained in the block and the riser. No water goes from the block to the manifold. The water gets distributed to the manifold risers by a hose on the front of the motor. Happy boating!
