I was given a Craftsman XXV (made by Poulan) I cleaned the gas tank and carb, and bought a new fuel line(sever varnish) bought a new spark plug too.
Should I dump the bar oil and clean that out?? How does it spit the oil onto the chain?
Anything else I should look into before I try to start this ?

Re: chainsaw help

Under the bar on the side of the case there should be oil passages (that usually get clogged by the fine sawdust). If you are in the cleaning mode I would use compressed air and clean everything. Make sure all the air passages are clear and there should be an adjusting screw for the oiler too...... I had a craftsman and I remember the oiler having a pump action that I could pump extra oil out.

Not a bad saw.... I used mine for utility work and brush cutting.

+1 with Bob...

But I wouldn't worry about actually "dumping" the chain oil... its not like its going to burn it or anything, just use it up...

but like Bob said, take an air compressor and blow out all of that area really good, mine always gets plugged up with dust after use... You may want to take the bar and chain off as well, and clean underneath.

Chainsaws can also be tough to tune if you aren't used to or have an ear for the rpm's. Even then without a tach it's tough to get it just right. I take mine in every 3-4 years and have it complelty cleaned and tuned. In between I can do everything else myself and tune pretty close by ear. Usually cost about $100 and is worth every cent in the work saved. A poor running saw will work you to death.

While your in there I would clean the spark arrestor screen in the muffler too. I'll make that thing run like new.

Re: chainsaw help

That Poulan Micro 25 was a darn popular little saw, I also have the Crapsman version and it starts on the 2nd pull cold and on the first warm.
I garbage picked it, needed a fuel line.
Co-Worker garbage picked a pefect Homelite XL, didnt even need gas and it ran. he also got a Poulan 25 from the same spot, needed carb rebuilt.

I use a bunch of old saws and with a little tuning they all run good and start easily.
