Anyone here from Central Texas? I haven't been to any other lakes other than Central Texas i.e. ( Lake Austin, Belton, Stillhouse, Travis, Canyon, Bastrop, Fayette, and others) but they are all beautiful, and the fishing is great too. Let me hear from you about these Body body's of water. What the fishing is like on each, and recreational options, and your personnel experiences.

Mostly Canyon, and Medina but have made regular trips to LBJ, Travis, Buchanon, Inks, and some other highland lakes. I really don't know too much about the freshwater fishing on any of these lakes.

I have friends that fish regularly on Medina and they enjoy it. I have been told that the fishing is good up the guadalupe river from canyon lake. Also been told of lots of stumps to keep you busy. Lakes LBJ and Austin are pretty built up and have a ton of traffic. Buchanon is very nice but never been told anything about fishing. If you can go further north towards Stephenville there are some great lakes. South of San Antonio is Choke Canyon and west is Amistad. Both are very popular for fishing.

I have heard alittle about Choke Canyon, I need to take a trip down there and maybe camp it out before it gets to hot. I really don't perfer lakes that have alot of traffic, except Canyon Lake. I have heard Decker Lake in Austin is good fising.

We do our boating up on Lake Buchanan. Buchanan is a huge, man-made lake - 38 miles long and 7 miles at it's widest. The the Lower Colorado River comes in at the top of the lake, and you can boat 10 or more miles up it when the water is high. That's a great trip - high clift walls, waterfalls, eagles and deer.

As already mentioned, the lake is pretty rustic - not a lot of development and not a lot of traffic. It's also not a constant level lake and you have to watch for debris that's been deposited by the river. From what we're told the fishing is great. There's multiple fishing camps and guides, and we sure see a lot of folks fishing in the early and late hours.

We really prefer Buchanan to Travis or even LBJ.

That 10 mile river drive sounds great! I think we will have to try that out soon. What is the water level there now?

According to this webside Buchanan is 95% capacity. I have found it to be fairly accurate at least based on thier Medina readings which was 6 feet down by my eye last weekend.

The other thing to do is look for some water readings up river from Buchanan. All the ones on this website are downriver.

I spoke with a friend recently about maybe takeing a boating trip to Lake Buchannon, they said that the swells and wind are very dangerous there. I only have a 18ft fish and ski. Sounds like when I do go there I need to be watching the news.

That could be the case on a body of water 7 miles wide. I have not experienced anything that would have made me nervous. Disclaimer...I grew up with a hard core blue water fishing dad in FL and GA.

A former co worker lives on Buchanan and he has never said anything. he runs a 20 ft Sea Ray so not too much difference from your rig.

Re: Central Texas Lakes

I am going to Lake Belton this weekend, I read it is down by about 8 1/2 feet. Anyone else heading out there?

Looking for advice, other than to stay to the middle.

It was totally amazing lakes before two month i was in there really i fully enjoyed there even my wife also i think there is Lake Buchanan, Inks Lake, Lake LBJ, Lake Marble Falls, Lake Travis and Lake Austin. These lakes are very popular with boaters and fishermen as well as campers and tourists. This is also a very popular retirement area.
