my question is when (year) omc used first CDI ignition?
i think it was 1977 but i may be wrong.

F_R u are correct on that i double checked , they still list it under distributor group , cheers

so first OMC motor based on CDI ignition was 100hp from 1967, its quite long ago.

I think they kept using the "universal magnetos" on smaller HP motors until around '73 per Durban's post. They went through several different types from '74-'76 too, if memory serves. I try to stay away from motors that "new" because of all the electronic "improvements" they started making. Some of the early models can be converted back to the old style magneto system, but I'm not exactly sure which ones. Here's a cool article about the good 'ol universal magneto.
