I am having a problem reading data from CD's I have burned. I can run other CD's such as video and audio with out any problems. My first concern was that the disk was scratched and compromised but then tried it in another computer which pulls up the info. I recently updated my virus software and presume something somewhere may need to be tweeked.

Helpful Thoughts Appreciated

Re: CD data reading problem.

I'm afraid to say, most likely the drive is on it's way south. CD-Rs are a little more difficult for the drive to read than molded discs. You can try a different brand of CD-R or cleaning the lens, but keep in mind new CDRW drives are about $30.

Have a look here at XCusme's post:

Specifically Tip #4. Although that's about DVD players the same things apply. I would rather see you pull apart the drive and clean it manually rather than try one of those cleaning discs.

If you can clean it and fix it, great. When mine start to flake out, I just replace them. I recently did the same for my mother's pc I built. I put her in a new Lite-On DVD burner for under $40 from Newegg.
