i heard on here that the cavitation plate is supposed to be about 1 inch below the bottom of the transom.. i have a 35 merc on a 16 lund.. i was just wondering if anyone could tell me if what they said was right and if it would help give me some speed because of less drag.

Re: cavitation plate and transom

Hi, Wally.

The general "rule" is that the anti-ventilation plate (AKA cavitation plate) should be even with or slightly above the keel.

Many people raise it higher than that at some risk of prop ventilation, particularly on turns.

The higher it is, the less drag and the higher the risk that the prop will ventilate by breaking the water surface.

Hope that helps. :)
