Cause for concern?

I just boughtt this Lowe Roughneck last week. Monday night I switched cranking batteries and rolled the motor over a couple times to make sure the battery was ok. Yesterday I go outside to work on the trailer lights and there is this puddle. Not sure if this has anything to do with it or not but sunday evening it rained. I had the motor tilted all the way up and monday morning while leaving for work, I tiltled the motor down and rain water came out around the prop. Is this "leak" something to worry about or did the rain water just mix with dirt somewhere and then drain on the driveway? Thanks in advance. BTW, my '88 Evinrude 25hp does this sometimes too.

Re: Cause for concern?

The exhaust comes out thru the propeller. There is all kinds of carbon and crud in exhaust. And yes, it will hold water while it is tilted up. So water + exhaust crud = crud. Check the oil in the lower unit and if it is full and no water in it, you are good to go.

Gearlube that black would smell like tar. It looks more like residual fogging or 2-stroke oil plus dissloved carbon.

Checked it yesterday and it smells like gas. It's really oily though. I haven't had time to check the lower unit oil yet. Im planning on changing it this evening.

I have had that problem before with a 20 hp that I upped to a 30 hp. It is more than likely running a little rich, which is ok and that is the unburned gas and oil from when you were idling at the boat ramp.

I have the same puddle on my garage floor. Yesterday I cranked my 25 hp rude over and now all the fogging I put in last fall is on my floor (along with some nasty carbon) so don't worry.
