Took me a few photos of these 2... The little one is one I pulled out of our dive gear before we used it.

Almost looks like the Massasauga Rattler we have around here. Except for the white belly.

Re: Cats!!!

fresh from the cat's @ss is alot different than cow manure you buy. and, you can be fairly certain there are neighbors who aren't grateful that just about everything that moved is now dead or has left the area.

i've got dogs and a cat and they all stay inside. the dogs can go out when i do. the neighbors feed anything that can find space at the trough. i most certainly do not appreciate the cats they attract.

i love my dogs but they're stupid as ....well, dogs. in their screwed up heads cat pickles are a treat. a disgusting, get away from me treat. they love to chase cats when i open the door too.

not cool, cat people who let their cats roam.

I like the "cat pickles" term--I will start using that--our's likes them too for some freak'n reason--and it is the most fowl thing in the world.

Re: Cats!!!

We're more fortunate down here.

There are strict bi-laws on cats. We've had tonnes of problems on building sites. They crap all over the joint. You get it on your gun hoses and leads...then on your hands. You step in some and then go up a ladder...it gets on your hands on the way down. Very very very annoying.

Law is cats can never be out and loose when it's dark. To protect the wildlife mostly.

And if you object to a cat being on your property at any time you inform the council and the owner. If you catch it on your property it goes to the shelter. The owners have to pay a fine to get it back. Then if it happens again the fine goes to $300. A third time you dont get it back.

The local coucil will come and trap the cats for you, or you can get one from the shelter or the coucil for a small deposit.

PS. I hate cats more than ever after what we go through on the job sites. It's insane. Not the cat's fault we know. But it gets to a point where resentment kicks in at the sight of them. Unfortunately, my wife is a cat lover and we still have one left after one died last year. Useless fury ornaments, that's all they are.

Re: Cats!!!

We had problems with a neighbor's cats going in our yard and messing with our chickens. I spoke to him about it but he blew me off & nothing changed. His response was, "that's what cats do." So, I told him that I will set cat traps in my yard and take any cats to the Humane Society. When he objected, I simply stated "that's what I do."

In our area, even cats must be licensed. So check with your city/county to see if it needs a license & maybe go that route. If it were me, I'd trap them and say nothing to the neighbors. Once an animal enters my property, I can legally trap it.

Re: Cats!!!

Had a similar problem with my neighbor, a county deputy sheriff.
He had two dogs that were diggers. They would dig under our common fence and get in my backyard. Both the dogs were large breed that tend to tear things up but are friendly.

This happened several time, them digging into my yard. I offered to split the cost of a new fence. I returned their dogs to them AT LEAST 8 times. Finally the last time I told them if the dogs got in my yard again I would call animal control.

Well two weeks later both the dogs showed up in my back yard. I chained them up in the corner of my yard and gave them food and water. Called animal control.

Late that day AC showed up and I helped them load the dogs into the truck. As we were loading the second one my neighbor came out. The AC officer asked if they were his and he replied yes. He accused me of hiding his dogs. I told him they had been chained up in my back yard in a corner and if he had come to my door we could have visited about it. He knew his dogs were missing but could not fine them. (Some deputy, huh?)

The AC officer told my neighbor she would release them back to him but he needed to provide proof of vaccination. He went into the house to get it but came back later and said it was lost. (Yeah, right!)

Anyway he got two tickets for the vaccination. She also offered to city him for failure to contain but I told here that was not needed.

While the AC officer was writing out the paperwork an tickets my neighbor and I visited. I reminded him off my offer to help with the fence, the fact I had rounded up his animals several time and that they had done damage to my yard. I also reminded him of the letter and verbal warning that I would call AC the next time it happened and that I did.

I then told him if his animals got in my yard one more time I would drop them. I told him I was not bluffing on the AC being called, I'm not bluffing on the dropping them. I told him I would not contact him and I would dispose of the remains myself so he could tell his kids that maybe they had run off somewhere.

Anyway he gave the Rottweiler away to a friend in the country and the German Shepard mix his now an indoor pet. I'm sure it tears heck out of their house but he is seldom outside.

Also I have registered two complaints with the city about the non stop barking that use to take place. After the second warning letter from the city I can file complaint that will go before a judge. The AC officer told me and the neighbor the judge always finds for the plaintiff in animal nuisance cases as there must really be a problem if someone has made multiple attempts to get it resolved.

What I would suggest in your case is trap the cats. Call AC to come pick them up. The AC will ask if you know the owners. Point next door. They will have to deal with AC right then but at least their pets are not hauled off.

Worked for me.

Re: Cats!!!

Hey Parrot_Head, (Love the name :D)

Doesn't work like that here. I have to take the trapped cats to the shelter (a 25km drive). They then ask my name and address, and if the owner shows up, they hand it back (no fine involved) and tell them who hand the animal in!

If it were a dog problem I would have the full force of the law on my side. The dog control laws here are seriously strict. Number dogs in a yard, they MUST be licensed, if there are ANY complaints the local council officer would be on their doorstep in minutes, handing out fines. But nothing for cats.

Motion sensor sprinklers would just keep them out of the garden. But I also have to put up with them howling all night, and pissing and crapping in my back patio area. The place stinks like a ****hole!!!

Last night the howling started at 9.30, so I'm going down to the shop this morning to buy/rent a trap... Those cats will be GONE!!!

Re: Cats!!!

Yes, only this morning I pulled 3 Tiger snakes out of my boat before I could do any work on it... We've found them in our cars and we check under the bed each night before going to sleep. We also have another poisonous one, a Dugite. They like living around the back of the toilet. It's nice and cool there and they get real bad in summer. I've removed 4 from the toilet in a single day. As well as snakes we have some 'nice' spiders... One called a 'red-back', like your black widow. They like hiding up under logs and the like. They particularly like hiding under the ridge capping on fences....

For the statistics, Australia has 19 of the top 20 deadliest snakes in the world... We just live with them. I like them, they keep the rats in check.. The rats actually attack cats! Maybe that's my problem. I have snakes, which keep the rats down, and that allows the cats in........

Cheers.........
:D :D :D :D

I think I would be more concerned with how I was going to keep the deadly snakes from behind the toilet. Cats in the yard seem like a much smaller problem, just saying!:D
As far as the cat problem goes how about getting a dog.

 The snake thing was a wind-up.... I didn't think anyone would be that gullible! It's like a Canadian saying they has moose walking down the streets of Montreal....

Getting a dog... Not practical, I work away from home, so there would be nobody here to look after it...

Re: Cats!!!

Some of these people make me worried, what ever you do, just don't be vindictive. Worst than a cat being a problem is a neighbor that will go out of his/her way to report you for any minor violation that they see. We all do our best to follow laws and zoning, but there is always something even so small that we might not know about or think about. Also never speak to them when you are upset as it will put them on the defensive. Invite them over for dinner or something and get to know them, make them feel like jerks if they don't at least try something. Work on one problem at a time.

...Just proof that you can't train a cat!

And that squirting them with water doesn't keep them away... So much for the motion activated sprinklers!
