Where are you located? It really all depends oh the body of water you are fishing.

Find the baitfish and you'll find the cats. Shad like to congregate in creek mouths around here when the water gets cold.

If you have sonar (fish finder) on your boat you shouldn't have any problems finding the huge clouds of bait.

For me it depends on where I am fishing. I have one lake where the baitfish are hanging around 60-70 and the cats right under and I have another that there only about 20ft down and then the river there only about 10ft right now so like said above just find the bait

I would just try to find deep holes or long deep points or humps and start there and like said above look for the boat and most of the time the cats are under that
