Carport for boat photos

Can those with tall carport (steel or wood) post your photos up please?

I'm looking for options for my boat. It has a radar arch so height is about 13'. I also need cover for my truck too. So it's gonna be really long, maybe 50-60'.

Looks like a building BCI in Muskogee, OK. built for me. Great building.

I like an enclosed building as it really reduces the wear and tear over just a car port, and you don't have to cover the boat to keep the interior clean....big deal to me. Additionally it has doors that lock and that is well worth the money.

I like enclosed building too. I don't think I need door. My back yard is pretty deep, 200 feet. I have metal fence & gates up front. Boat will be all the way to the back. I have yet to install motor gate openers but will soon. Also, I live at the end of a dead end street.

I was thinking of building just a skeleton frame using 2x lumbers, maybe 4' OC. But since my boat radar arch is high (12.5'-13'), I have to be creative on the roof arch, making sure it's braced solidly without losing the height. If I build a "A" frame, I'll lose lots of height.

That's why a metal port is actually ideal. I'd just like to see alternative. I'll probably do a cost comparison to see which style better.

By the way, if I build wood stick frames, roofings & siding would be metal too I think, to save cost, and add portability.

What you guys think?

I'm a general contractor and guarantee you I can't build a wood structure for the price of a tin carport. They can be ordered in about any size/height you can imagine. In my case, I ordered a 20' long, 18' wide, 7' wall height carport that was stressed for a 60# snow load. I elected to have only 3' of the sides covered but have since filled in the rest (not sure what I was thinking). Installed on my site was about $1600 plus tax. Painless, bombproof and my boat is happy. What's not to like?
If money was no option and I had the room, I'd build a HUGE shop/garage...... but that's not my situation.

18x20 probably 8' side walls, closed sides, open ends but with the top gables closed ( so I can hang a tarp, shower curtain style)

So blackhawk, what brand is yours? Is it a national brand? or local?

Here's one that I recently built when my neighbor gave me some trusses.

It's all done now, but I don't have a recent pic. I'm planning to do the entire house in that style roof next.
Even though the trusses were free, the LVL beams, PT 8x8 posts, hardware, and roof added up to 3 grand+. It's 16x28 and has 14+ feet of vertical clearance.

Nicely done, Mischief! Free trusses even matched the roof pitch of your house.... I'd have done that in a minute if I'd had the room by my house.
Roscoe, I added a gable end (friend just happened to have a "spare" of the right color (miracle)) then added a crude shed extension to cover the motors since I was too cheap to buy the 24' long model. I also set 4x6 treated lumber on pier pads to act as a 'footing' for both sides to insure the structure was square and level + provided additional support for snow loads and high wind gusts. Yes it sheds snow and yes it's a pain to deal with as one side sheds onto my driveway. Fortunately, I have a 30hp diesel 4wd tractor to deal with it. I added power and lights to the carport and I'm extending the sides all the way down. It's still not as nice as a wood framed structure but works very well for the money and did not require a special building permit. If need be, it can be moved.

So am I. 22x26 7' walls(closed sides, open ends) which would already be 8' about a foot from the the side. Should hold my boat and truck. $2800 + tax installed. americansteelinc.com

Ok, I mis typed.
18x26x8 closed sides and gable ends, $2435 plus $100 for land anchors.


21' depth only saves $300, so I am going with the extra depth.

I just did a demo job today and refurbish quite a bit of metal roofing from a sunroom. I forgot to measure, but I think the panels are probably 12' long. Total about 18-20'.

So I'm still thinking about doing a simple wood stick frames, then use these roofs. If I need more, I can buy extra. For the side, I'd probably use tarp for now. Not the best look, but save some money

I definitely like the look of a metal carport. But my case would be close to $3500 just for the boat.

I just put up a 12*31 with 8 ft legs and closed sides. It's the a frame style metal carport and it was just over 2k. Keeping a 20' bowrider under it

I guess a lot depends on ones location and winter snow load. Where I live, all buildings have to be rated at 80# snow load which requires substantial wood framing. For whatever reason, my county does not account for roof pitch or metal roofing (the neighboring county does) which could greatly decrease costs on wood framing. The metal carport I bought was cheaper than I could build to code with wood, required no permit and met snow load requirements.
Easy decision for me and very happy with it.

We have to build to 65 lb snow load, I built to 130. I like to overbuild...

That's 3 2x14 LVLs lagged together. The 8x8 posts are sitting on 16" footings that are sitting on granite ledge.

The trusses are rated for 24" OC, I installed them at 16".
