Now that I am finishing up the trailer work on my boat, I am addressing the problem I have with the carpet in front of the engine cover. I'm looking for suggestions, ideas.. etc.

What would you guys do if your boat had a 5x5 inch patch of carpet that was worn away and exposed the wood floor beneath?

I'm thinking about getting a piece of carpet, and cutting it to fit around the engine cover as well as into the small areas in the rear seats. But not sure if that is the best way. I know the best way is to just replace the carpeting in the boat, but I do not want to do that right now.

Here's an image of what I'm working with - I'll get a better picture tonight.

Thanks,
Sean

If you don't want to spend big bucks, Costco has 6' x 9' indoor / outdoor carpet for $24, in navy blue.

I'd do what Glasply suggests Sean, but I'd go with a light grey. That blue will burn bare feet in the sun. I'd also buy a snap kit thing with wood screw "male" snaps. This way it won't flap in the wind AND you can easily pull the piece(s) out so the carpet below can dry out. You can also get larger pieces cut off of a roll at Home Depot. Ooops, I'm sorry . . . THE Home Depot

Is there an area of good carpet that's not exposed (under the seats maybe) that you could cut a patch from to glue down in the worn spot?

This would only be a temporary fix.

Bought all of it for $13.99 at Menards in Menomonee Falls. I believe the role was 13'x 17', so I had lots left over. The biggest cost was the Industrial strength contact adhesive I used.
