Does anyone own a Carniti Diesel Outboard marine engine? I have been trying to contact their company but am having a lot of trouble even locating a distributor. In addition, I am considering purchasing a new old stock engine and would like any current owners to comment on their experiences with their engine or the company support. We want to take this engine to equatorial west Africa. Any infor would be appreciated. Maintenance parts are a must.

I dont know what problems you will have with fuel, but if you need world wide parts for a out board motor, I think Johnson/Evinrude will be hard to beat even with all of the problems they have had. They also used to make an engine that ran on kerosine.

If it has to be a diesel, Yanmar parts and support may be easier to locate than the Carniti. Just the thought of $3500 for a 16 hp outboard makes my wallet cry out in pain.

Haah! Looks kinda like the "Bolinder" motor doesn't it?:D

Yeah, it's ugly, for sure. However, it looks like it might just do the job. Back in the boonies, where these outboards get used, simple is good. There's no impeller to worry about. Those belts can be easily replaced. The clutch or shift is on the handle with the twist grip.

If the boat you're pushing through the water is some dugout, the need is for an outboard that will just plain run and run and run.

I think for $3500 I could put together more than one of those of equal poer with a single cyl diesel such as a Kubota, a right angle gearbox, a centrifical clutch etc.

Or just straight shaft it from any engine ala those tiawanese riverboats.
